Funniest Thank You Note ever from a candidate

Wed Jul 18, 2007 at 03:56:25 AM PDT

A while back I got a phone call from Al Franken's senate campaign for a donation. I get at least three phone calls a day from candidates or committees looking for money. Thank God for caller ID. Typically I give via ActBlue.com to candidates I read about here or to local candidates. But heck, I thought, Al Franken is running against Norm Coleman, so I took the call.

More coming up

I took the call and spoke to a very sweet young woman who went into her pitch. I just cut to the chase and asked how much they wanted. I think she asked for $25. I think I gave $50. It was all over very quickly and everyone was happy. I totally forgot about the whole thing until yesterday.

My husband brought in the mail and announced, "Honey, you got a post card from Al Franken." And sure enough, I had. It was the best and funniest thank you card ever. Was it worth 50 bucks? Actually, yes. Because it was very clear from the card that they are spending my money on grassroots organizing. Plus I really needed a laugh yesterday. It was a crazy day.

Now I'm not gonna tell you what the card said because you deserve to get it yourself just to brighten your day. You can contribute to Al's campaign, check out the campaign blog, plus read some very amusing interviews with him at his website http://www.alfranken.com/. Check it out and then send him $5 or $50 or whatever. Then in a month or two, when you've completely forgotten about it, but when you may really need it, you'll get a really funny thank you card from very good and funny Minnesota writer.
